Lyle Longstaff
Lyle Longstaff was born in New Westminster in 1939 and has lived his entire life in the Lower Mainland, including forty years in the lovely Hazelmere Valley.
He attended Semiahmoo High School and worked outdoors in construction and farming industries. These years of experience honed his deep awareness of natural beauty and the rhythm of the seasons as they unfold.
An industrial accident became a blessing in disguise, as it left him unable to work for several months. This is when he took up painting for the first time, and his innate talent was immediately recognized.
Lyle paints and draws because he loves it. He studied with Vee Hansen and the late Dale Germain and has developed his own clear, clean style in his portrayals of seascapes, landscapes, flowers and wildlife. He works in oil and acrylic. Lyle enjoys flower gardening, camping, hiking and fishing, and while he is engaged in these activities, his painter's eye is constantly seeking out more inspiration for his art. He is rarely without his camera.
Although, at the beginning of his career he vowed never to paint flowers, they are becoming his forte and his exquisite close-up images of them are eagerly sought after.
Lyle's paintings are available at Birthplace of B. C. Gallery in Fort Langley, BC.
